Welcome to DucKon Childcare

DucKon's ChildCare is open for children 6 months to 8 years of age. This age range has been increased from that of years past. Our ChildCare Staff have lots of fun activities planned just for our youngest Fen. If your child would like to join the fun, they must be pre-registered for the convention. Below is some general information based on questions raised by parents of some of the children in ChildCare. Suggestions, comments, or questions etc. are always welcome and encouraged. Please email childcare@duckon.org.

How we spend time with the children

In ChildCare, we try not to watch too much television. However, we do: read books, play with toys such as blocks or Magna Doodles, play group games, such as Wonder Ball, and do arts and crafts projects such as Treasure Boxes. We also have a track of programming just for our youngest fen in which we bring programs right into ChildCare!

DucKon 19 ChildCare Registration Deadline Extension

At DucKon we strive to provide excellent service to our attendees. To that end, I am happy to offer an extension to the normal registration deadline for ChildCare this year. THIS EXTENSION IS CONDITIONAL as you will not be able to register for the convention online. If you would like to register a child after the online registration deadline of May 15, you must contact us by emailing childcare@duckon.org on or before 5:00 PM CST Wednesday June 16, 2010. The reason for this is that while we would love to have 30 children laughing and playing in ChildCare all weekend, we have staff to child safety ratios which must be maintained at all times. Of course, we will accept as many children as we can; we do not want to turn anyone away - but if you have not registered yet, space is limited. In the email please include your child's full name, their badge name, and their date of birth. I hope this alleviates any difficulty you may have had in registering for ChildCare. See you at DucKon!

What to expect when leaving your child in ChildCare

When you first check in to ChildCare, you will be asked for some general information such as your room number in the hotel if applicable, convention badge numbers for you and your child, and any allergies or medical conditions that your child may have. This information is kept strictly confidential and used to help us find you should that become necessary as well as helping us to better care for your child's needs in terms of snacks we give them and or preventative measures in the case of other allergies etc. You will also be photographed with your child so that in case we need to find you quickly, your name and photo can be sent to convention operations.

What to bring to ChildCare

When bringing your child to ChildCare please be sure to bring any anything that your child may need while in ChildCare such as, diaper bags, bottles, or your child's favorite stuffed animal or other toy. If your child likes to read a certain book, please feel free to bring that too. Please note that we can not distribute medications to children in ChildCare. All medications must be administered by a parent or guardian. Additionally, you may feel free to bring food for your child, as a snack. However, we do not serve full meals in ChildCare. We do have juice boxes, fresh fruit and other snacks for the children to enjoy while they are in ChildCare.
